Play beach volleyball, bike the waterfront path, or just stretch out on the wide, well-kept sand.

The main beach in Santa Barbara. Early in the day it's manageable. By afternoon the whole town seems to end up here. Good for all of it: swimming, sitting, watching, playing. Free, as beaches are.
